News for RTL8191SEvA Wireless LAN Controller on openSUSE

are:

  1. You do not need to install its driver from TAR package anymore, zypper will take over it via Open Build Service (OBS), which is easier to maintain and to get update. See on the openSUSE-Kernel list to get to know on how to have the packages installed (or you might to see the tutorial in Bahasa Indonesia here) and look on the additional note below.
  2. The driver (rtl8192se) will be in Linux 3.0  kernel tree.
  3. openSUSE 12.1 will have Linux 3.0 kernel on its final release (right now it still in Milestone 1), so user will have the RTL8191SEvA wireless device working automatically right after openSUSE 12.1 installed.
  4. BNC #608060 has been resolved since yesterday..  :)

openSUSE 11.2: ATI/AMD Catalyst™ Linux Display Driver v.10.5

Many tutorials on how to install the driver have been available to be followed, so I’ll try to avoid many repotition of them. Now I just want to remind you about the newest version, ATI Catalyst™ Display Driver v. 10.5 *, that has already come.

Just update your driver to get the improvements and (maybe) bug-fixes, see the release notes for it.

*) For the ATI RADEON (9500 and later), MOBILITY RADEON (M10 and later), RADEON XPRESS IGP and FireGL (Z1 and later) series.

The installation of this driver on openSUSE 11.2 is relatively easy, but the one who wants the newest version should do with the hard way. Actually it is not so hard, only typing several commands in console like it was on openSUSE 11.1. Continue reading
