After knowing this news, I immediatly took YaST to update all KDE4 packages yesterday. Now, I’m going to mention how to do that in easy (GUI) way, how to install or update KDE 4 to your openSUSE machine (I’m recenty using openSUSE 10.3 right now and used in this whole tutorial). I assume You have installed KDE 4.0 before following this tutorial, see this to install KDE 4.0 in your openSUSE machine.

First
You have to choose what tool that will manage all the software packages in your system, I choose YaST Software Management to do that in this (easy) tutorial.

Second
Because the tool i choose is YaST Software Management, then it must be told (through YaST Software Repositories) where the place(s)– that contains many software packages– will be choosed. From that place(s), it will get/download the needed packages and install them to the system.

Those places are called software repositories. For this case take KDE4 Repositories (KDE-Core, KDE4-Extras Applications, and KDE4 -Community, please choose your openSUSE version!) and add them to the YaST Software Repositories.

Third
Open YaST through Kickoff.

Give the user root password.

Access YaST Software Management, wait until it finish refreshing the packages and their metadata.

Fourth
Select Repositoris in Filter field [no. 1], then choose KDE-Core [no. 2] (the exaple given name, one of KDE 4 repositories), You can see packages that has new version are labeled with blue color [no. 3], and say its new version number (just click the image to see the larger one) .

Right click in one package, then select All in This List / Update if newer version available [no. 4]. Do the same to other KDE4 Repositories, KDE4-Extras[c.] and KDE4-Community[b.] . And finally push the Accept button [no. 5] to start the installation or this updating process (click the image to see it larger).

Fifth
Wait until it download and install all packages.

Sixth
Select No button to finish the installation, and reboot (or just logout and login again) computer to see the new feel of this fourth KDE release.

I’ll report everything in the next posts what kind of KDE 4.0.4 features can be brought to us in our computer desktop experience, so it can increase our productivity.
