The First openSUSE-Id HackFest

Five to eight in that evening (Saturday, January 3rd 2009) I finally arrived at Edy Purwanto‘s office, one of Ministry of Youth and Sport of Indonesia Government (in Bahasa Indonesia) buildings. He showed me his new Apple Macbook Pro that he had just bought it that eveing then. Oh God, I can’t tell you more about this toy, it is great, one of my must-have machine in my life.

But, I have still KDE 4.2 on my openSUSE machine, then showed it to him, and of course he was amazed about the improvement, he finally did what I’d done.. :P

Vavai arrived when Edy was updating his KDE 4.1.35 to 4.2 Beta 2. We were then discussing about what we’re going to hack that night, about community it self, our wiki, LUG in Indonesia, and of course KDE 4.2 that always looks more stable than any other Linux Distribution does (no offense :P ). Heri, Yamin, Elly, and Yayat arrived after Vavai. We were missing Bonnie and Edwin there, too bad not to see them in this our first HackFest wich there’re good guys in this openSUSE-Id Team.

What we’re hacking had been scheduled here; remastering Live CD openSUSE 11.1 and discussing about our planning to bring this community to be a foundation (Yayasan openSUSE Indonesia?) in the night and in the morning Vavai gave workshops about creating openSUSE 11.1 Live USB, openSUSE DVD Repositories(in Bahasa Indonesia), and we made plan about our next HackFest (for openSUSE-Id Team) an next Annual Meeting, a.k.a kopdar (for all members).

All our discussions and sharing are gone with fun and enjoy, to be the first HackFest hard to be forgotten.. :)
