I couldn’t wait any longer to publish this blog post except my tight activities teaching students here and getting involved on openSUSE-Id first HackFest in Jakarta last Saturday, including preparing openSUSE 11.1 Release Party in Bandung. So KDE 4.2 Beta 2 (code name: Canaria) that had announced in last December 9th 2008 could not be reviewed (deeply) and published in this blog that days. If you follow the Roadmap, today KDE Team are preparing for next KDE 4.2 RC1, and on openSUSE we’ll still having in KDE 4.1.87 (KDE 4.2 Beta 2) tree until this day.
Installation
Too easy getting this latest KDE 4.2 installed on your openSUSE machine (mine is openSUSE 11.1), by adding this repositories: Core, Extras, and Community, to your YaST Software Repositories, and as usual, Install the packages through YaST Software Management. There you can let the Update if newer version available magic works for you.
When you have added those repositories, hereafter the easy steps then:
- Run YaST trough KickOff or Lancelot Launcher:
- Choose YaST Software Management:
- Change the Filter field to Repositories.
- Select KDE 4.2 Core Repository (4.b).
- Right click there, and finally choose the magic Update if newer version available.
- Take the same action for both KDE 4.2 Extras (4.c) and Community (4.a) Repository. Click Next button to proceed (click the image to see it larger).
- After all processes finish, restart KDE (logout and login again), or just reboot the machine.

All steps described above can also be easily doing by Zypper. And for its users, you know what to do..
There you go.. I just could give these screen shots this time, preparing some works more seriously
in next posts.. Enjoy it. Trust me, after the end of this January, you won’t need to look back anymore..
I wonder if we can do both openSUSE 11.1 and KDE 4.2 Release Party in the same day this January in Bandung.. right?
So, lets roll the Cube!!!
